Fun dives Saturday back to our favourite Manta Reef, unfortunately no manta this time but we swam around all the pinnacles and saw so many species!! Some of the group then went to help with swimming lessons while the others got in a paddle board session and saw so many jellies! Sunday we all headed to Tofo to go surfing and had an amazing Mexican for lunch, we then went to a sunset spot for dinner. The ride back was full of music, singing and laughter!
This week started with team Matapa at schools with the topic ‘Things you love about the Ocean’ as part of the ocean syllabus. While team Cassava was back at Guinjata Fisheries and Humpback Whale Land Surveys. The humpbacks were super active and we had 3 FULL PAGES of behaviours!!
Tuesday team Cassava had a double transect dive and humpback whale acoustics. We saw a GUITAR FISH and an ELECTRIC RAY!!! Team Matapa taught at the local school about Humpback whale migration using interactive comic sketches and a game of migration tag.
Wednesday was a quiet day at Paindane fisheries however we had so many humpback whale breaches!! Team Matapa started on their animal fact files at the school followed by painting a beautiful jellyfish wall. Both teams finished the night watching Mamma Mia.
Thursday morning we had a sunrise SUP before team cassava headed out for another two transect dives, to which we saw a huge cone shell and I had a juvenile fish hang out on my GoPro during our nudibranch survey. It was the last day of teaching at the schools for team Matapa and all the children made a fact file on their favourite marine animal.
Friday team Cassava was at Guinjata fisheries while watching team Matapa have a sunrise SUP and saw some humpbacks breaching in the distance!! Both groups completed a beach clean and used the plastic machine to make recycled jewellery! Began the weekend watching Finding Nemo ready for another fun dive and swimming lessons.
